Activities >> Hiking

With its spectacular, varied scenery, the Czech Republic offers a virtually ideal environment for hiking. There is an extraordinarily dense network of clearly marked routes covering the entire territory, which prevents hikers from losing their way even in the most remote corners of the country. The most popular tourist regions include the Krkonose Mountains, the Sumava and other border mountain ranges. Away from the peaks, there are many interesting hikes that begin and end at wondrous castles.

Hiking enthusiasts should, however, also make a point of exploring romantic sandstone “rock towns” or some of the wild river valleys, fashioned, for example, by the River Dyje in Moravia, the Vydra in the Sumava, and the Strela in Western Bohemia. Numerous marked tourist paths can also be found in the country’s border areas, with some of them leading across the border and continuing further inland to meet trails in neighbouring countries. Detailed tourist maps are readily available from information centres, bookshops and small vendors throughout the country.
